Gerleman provides an introduction to his commentary on Esther, covering §1 the history of its exegesis, §2 its paraphrastic dramatizations, its relationship to §3 the Exodus narrative and to §4 Purim, §5 its literary content, §6 its language, §7 its place and date of composition, §8 its Greek versions, and §9 its canonicity. In this summary, I will cover only those sections that seemed to me most useful from this lengthy introduction.
